Summary: Successful, self-important, image-obsessed Hollywood talent agency seeking someone to take on every single task in the accounting department (and more) at this multi-tasking desk. Job Responsibilities:
* Maintain all accounting records and clean up after COO who never learned the alphabet. This includes refiling his bills and invoices, which he will he toss around and promptly forget (he will blame you later for losing them)
* Assist the COO in all his work. Learn the accounting software and teach him how to use it. Take all his calls and follow up on his unresolved issues while he reads the paper and updates his Facebook page.
* Administer Checks to Vendors and take all calls and e-mails pertaining to industry people begging to be paid: They cant pay their mortgage, they need cosmetic surgery for their dog, they need every piece of clothing Donatella Versace designed for the Spring 2009 line, etc.
* Single handedly conduct all collection calls for every company that, cumulatively, owe over 3 million dollars
* Be ready for abuse and scorn from vendors who didnt receive payment, due to them not responding to your multiple emails needing for them to fill out a W-9, a government document required by law to pay all new vendors. Also answer all calls for vendors demanding payments from as far back as 2005.
* Be everyones Office Bitch, including: Fixing the copier every time it has a simple paper jam, since your coworkers could not be bothered to fix it themselves. Fix the coffee maker when it makes crappier coffee than usual. Fix the garbage disposal when someone accidentally leaves a spoon in the drain but doesnt tell anyone. Take care of the recurring summer ant problem, since your coworkers are too thoughtless and self-absorbed to clean up after themselves in the kitchen. Also, be sure to have the rodent exterminators on speed dial.
Requirements:
*Knowledge of QuickBooks a must, no one else knows how to use it, so please be proficient
* Ability to multi-task, including taking phone calls, e-mails, answering questions in person, ordering/ restocking of office supplies, all at the same time. You will be tested.
* Ability to deal with snotty, entitled, selfish employees and vendors. Be ready to frequently answer the question t you know who I AM???
* Ability to sit at your desk (the closest to the bathroom) and hold your breath. This requires that you not retch because half the people in the office do not wash their hands. We can be pretty certain that the average human in the developed world is a lot more aware of hygiene issues thanks to the product range at their disposal. Woke up feeling like I can do this. Feeling a little bit nauseous from last nights Last Supper of Chinese food still, so good start to morning. Drank a whole glass of water to get the burning out of my mouth and throat. Whats the eating tube called? Will have to find out, because when ambulance comes when Ive fainted with hunger (Im forecasting here) I want to be able to tell them which part hurts.

Been to bathroom 2 times already today. People around me at work went to Starbucks - drinking their lattés and eating their scones While Im drinking lemonade that burns my esophagus. I think I need to cut down on the cayenne pepper as I will not be able to finish 1 day let alone 10! Lemonade is pleasant tasting (again, without the cayenne) and I actually dont mind it at all. I also find that licking the maple syrup off the spoon when I measure is going to be the highlight of my day. People have talked about how much energy they have on this cleanse- and I think Ive figured out why that is. People are trying to do something- anything- that gets their mind off of the fact that they cant eat and therefore find themselves to be infinitely more productive and thus thinking they have more energy.

They arent looking forward to having to sit in close quarters with me because I could be getting pretty grouchy. I concurred. Thinking that Im going to run out of lemonade since Ive drunk already more than of one of my bottles and havent had or yet.

Firstly, what most average Americans do not understand is that you and your IRA/401K are two separate entities. Repeat: you are not one and the same, nor are you in any way, shape or form joined at the hip. You will need to absorb this fact so you can begin to understand how to actually structure a deal with your IRA. If you dont take the time to learn the difference between you and your retirement plan, youre going to spend a lot of time wondering, is it me, or is it this plan that owes this money and needs to pay this bill?. Lets avoid confusion. Depending on the particulars of the loan you broker, the answer to this question, who owes the money, will be quite different. The next concept you need to bear in mind is that you and your IRA/401K, being two separate entities, have a third-party administrator for all of your deals. All deals involving your IRA or 401K will thus have a third party acting as a recordkeeper, administrator and a custodian or trustee. They will be the entity that is actually holding the money as well as the person who must meet government guidelines and regulations to be able to hold your retirement money. That said, lets move onto the specifics of IRAs and 401Ks. Were going to mention these entities quite a bit throughout the book, so it pays to be clear now. An IRA is a place where you can keep your assets for retirement, basically all the money that will see you through when you are no longer working. What most people dont understand, however, is that you can pour into your IRA whatever type of investments you want, while your assets can take any one of a number of forms. It is important to note though that your IRA is not an investment in itself. Next, lets take a look at non-traditional investments. Of course, retirement planning is a big issue for a lot of people. Most people, when they think about it, consider themselves limited to stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and the like. Theres a general consensus that these are the types of things that we should be investing our money in so that it will grow in the years that were working, giving us something to fall back on when the time comes. What a lot of people dont know, however, is that these investment types are not necessarily the best option. They certainly aren the only option.
Non-traditional investments such as real estate, notes, foreclosure properties, rehab properties, and other things along these lines, may actually be much more viable investments for the baby boomer generation. Many people believe that they already have a self-directed plan for their retirement, particularly if they are working with a brokerage firm. There is some truth to this. While you select your own mutual funds and stocks in many cases, most brokerage firms wont allow you to invest in real estate or notes. Thus, they usually have a limiting plan for investment. Unless you take something of a do-it-yourself route, real estate investment options using your 401k or IRAs are actually quite limited. To purchase such nontraditional types of investments within your retirement plan, you need to be allowed to self-direct. The person or entity holding your money, the custodian, must allow you to self-direct. One of the perceived disadvantages to self-direction, of course, is that you are assuming responsibility for how well your retirement plan actually does. You can, for example, pick the wrong stocks and bonds and hence secure nothing but financial losses. Thus, you can end up jeopardizing your future if you dont take the right approach. On the other hand - and lets now consider an example - you can save yourself a lot of money by acting in a financially sensible and knowledgeable way. Consider the case of Ms. X. Working as an investment advisor, Ms. X has been investing stocks and bonds for many years in her retirement plan. Her plan, like most of her contemporaries, is driven by traditional types of investments. During her working life, Ms. X has invested a good deal of money in real estate. In fact, its become something of a hobby to her. However, one of the problems with such an approach is that she had to pay taxes on the profits she made from her real estate investments. Using her retirement plan to make the investment, however, Ms. X discovered a way of avoiding these issues, as a number of other savvy individuals have done before. Real estate investing is nothing new as a means of acquiring wealth; it is a practice that has been popular since the beginning of recorded history. Most of the wealthiest people in history have either secured or built the bulk of their wealth using real estate. Land had always been the defining possession of the nobility in the vast majority of early socio-economic systems. Even during times of war and economic depression, land and property have tended to hold up as strong sources of wealth. Hence, it is safe to say that things are unlikely to be much different these days. However, despite the popularity of real estate and the many centuries of experienced buying and selling, even some of the most savvy investors are still unaware that they can use their retirement plans to invest and thereby save themselves from capital-gains taxes and other such annoyances. Although many people claim to feel by traditional investment options, the vast majority of them are totally oblivious to the fact that real estate is available to serve as one rather convenient nontraditional investment commodity for use in individual retirement plans (IRAs) and 401(k)s. .
The dual advantages of real estate and IRA/401(k) investments are overlooked. The only requirement of the IRS is that you have a custodian for your IRA or other retirement plan, which we will review. Beyond that, you are free to use your IRA or other qualified retirement plan to invest in real estate. You can also use your plan to keep your real estate investment, earning money and limiting what you have to pay in taxes. Since 1975, one has been able to use Keogh plans, now known as qualified plans, to purchase real estate as a tax-deferred investment option. With the increase to allowable contributions, simple employee retirement plans have become popular as well. In 1997, Roth IRAs further enhanced the popularity of tax-free investments. In 2006, the establishment of Roth 401(k)s made it possible for deferrals to be made regardless of salary amounts. At this point in time, the long and the short of it is that investment options are phenomenal and as we shall explore soon, the need for making sensible investments has never been greater. To fulfill the role of the press sought by Walter Lippmann (the dean of professional journalism) and his cronies, the press must see itself as separate from (and above) the culture a detached elite that helps guide the masses through the intricacies of the issues of life, issues that are far too complex for the uneducated masses to understand on their own. This is modernist colonialism to the nth degree.
If you ask people, they will say that the press be objective and not express a point-of-view, but where do they get that notion? Theyve gotten it from us. Consequently, people point out our humanness with an appropriate and trust in the press is at an all-time low. Why? Because were offering up an artificial standard that has no place in our world. The same First Amendment that gives the press freedom also gives our citizenry the freedom to speak their minds. The whole thing was written to protect just that, not the gathering of impartial facts or the bogus need to Thats all poppycock, and its about time the press stopped digging the hole that will serve as its own grave. To deny the First Amendment to its employees in the name of protecting press freedom is insane. Its oxygen-deprivation atop the pedestal the press has created for itself.
And while weve been practicing special interests have been perfecting the game of how to use that standard to get what they want. has given the minority voice such a place in our culture that there is no majority voice anymore. The melting pot is long gone, because the melting pot might offend somebody who can give their view equal footing in the name of an objective press.
I did a research project a few years back in which we asked people if they would mind reporters bias as long as they were up front about it. Overwhelmingly, the people in the study said it would be no problem. So what are we waiting for? Im all for honesty, accuracy and fairness, but I think transparency is the new objectivity and that we all would be better served for it.
I feel so passionately about this, because I honestly believe that professional journalism is self-destructing. I agree with my friend Howard Owens that its high time we looked at the journalism itself as the problem, because if we dont, a whole new is going to take our place. Hell, its already happening.
