Diflucan - 50, 100, 150mg
So maybe youre about to take Diflucan. You probably have some questions. Like, can a pill like Diflucan really work for a vaginal yeast infection? When will I feel relief? Should I just buy a cream? As you know, Diflucan is unlike cream medications - its 1 pill, 1 time, and no mess. Thats right. No applicators. No tubes. Just 1 little pink pill. Diflucan is unique. Diflucan is the only oral treatment for vaginal yeast infections, and its just as effective as Monistat 7, but with no mess.

FLUCONAZOLE - ORAL (flew-CON-uh-zole)
COMMON DIFLUCAN
AND NAME(S):
Diflucan
DIFLUCAN USES:
Diflucan is an antifungal agent used to treat infections in certain areas of the body caused by yeast and yeast-like organisms.
HOW TO USE DIFLUCAN:
Diflucan works best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do this by taking Diflucan at evenly spaced intervals. Take Diflucan as directed since different conditions require different methods of use. Diflucan is usually taken once daily. Another Diflucan dosing method involves taking Diflucan for one week per month until treatment is completed. Continue to take Diflucan until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping Diflucan too early may allow the yeast to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
DIFLUCAN SIDE EFFECTS:
Diflucan may cause stomach upset, loss of appetite, altered taste, diarrhea, nausea, headache or dizziness during the first few days as your body adjusts to Diflucan. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your doctor. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Diflucan, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects while taking Diflucan not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
DIFLUCAN PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease, any drug allergies. Diflucan should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits of taking Diflucan with your doctor. Fluconazole is excreted into breast milk. The manufacturer of Diflucan recommends it not be used while breast-feeding. Consult your doctor before you breast-feed while using Diflucan.
DIFLUCAN DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: astemizole, cisapride, cimetidine, oral contraceptives, cyclosporine, oral antidiabetic drugs, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampin, rifabutin, certain benzodiazepines (e.g., alprazolam, triazolam), tacrolimus, terfenadine, theophylline, warfarin, zidovudine. Do not start or stop Diflucan or any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
DIFLUCAN OVERDOSE:
If Diflucan overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of Diflucan overdose may include hallucinations and changes in behavior.
DIFLUCAN NOTES:
Diflucan has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use Diflucan later for another infection or give it to someone else. A different medicine similar to Diflucan may be needed.
MISSED DIFLUCAN DOSE:
If you miss Diflucan a dose, take Diflucan as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next Diflucan dose, take the scheduled dose only. Do not "double-up" the Diflucan dose to catch up.
DIFLUCAN STORAGE:
Store Diflucan at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store Diflucan in the bathroom.

Diflucan side effects are uncommon, but may occur. If any symptoms become severe, or persist, inform your doctor. If you are concerned about a serious, or allergic reaction, seek medical attention immediately. Do not use alcohol while taking Diflucan, as it may put you at an increased risk of sudden liver damage.
Common Diflucan Side Effects: decreased appetite, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, stomach upset, nausea or vomiting. If any of these become severe, contact your doctor.
Rare Diflucan Side Effects: abnormal bleeding or bruising, dark urine, itching or rash, pale stools, seizure, vomiting, yellowing of skin or eyes. If any of these occur, seek medical attention immediately. Reversible hair loss has occurred in rare cases with high doses taken for over two months; it is far less frequent with low, or normal, dosages.
Allergic Reaction: dermatitis, rash or itching, liver damage (yellow skin or eyes, general feeling of illness). You will have to stop taking Diflucan if these symptoms occur.
Cautions: Inform your doctor of any of the following conditions, or any history of them. Your doctor may need to adjust your dosage, or consider another treatment. Diflucan may not be right for some people.

I have a terrible ringworm infection that I mistakenly treated with 1% hydrocortisone cream for the past few months, and its worsened incredibly since then. My physician diagnosed it as ringworm, and prescribed griseofulvin and lotrimin. At first, the lotrimin helped considerably and cleared up the rash in a few days, but it started to become itchy, and, in my stupidity, I put a little hydrocortisone cream on it. Now its spread to the other side of my neck and is constantly either burning, itching, crusting, or oozing clear liquid. My doctor took me off of those medications and now has me taking 200 mg of fluconazole once a week. I took my first dosage today, and my rash is less itchy now, but I think thats due to the calamine lotion he recommended. Is this fluconazole even going to work on my tinea corporis? Should I buy some lamisil cream? I know that fluconazole only inhibits the growth of the fungus, but if I could find something to kill it outright, that be better.

I have a toenail infection that I wish I could get rid of. I tried Lamacil and I developed a skin rash all over my back, so the doctor recommended I stop taking it. I then asked about taking Sporanox or Diflucan as an alternative but she said that since I had an allergic reaction to Lamacil that my chances are higher of having an allergic reaction to Sporanox or Diflucan and that it may even be worse. Is she correct or just trying to discourage me from taking these medications because of costs.

Dog has brownish substance and bitter smell in one ear. Amantadine was first used, and her ears were cleaned, and she still is showing signs of infection. I believe it is probably a yeast infection, and I would like to use some Diflucan to treat her. I dont know doseage for and 85 lb Labrador.
I have many vets, and docs in my family, and I have diflucan on hand. I only have information on dosage for humans. I would only trust information that were consistant with information I already know but thanks for the advice
Non Amantadine Augmentin. my bad I am not a vet, but I have many who are in my family who will be glad to help my when they are not working. I have a doc bringing me some diflucan, and I am just trying to figure out the correct doseage
I shouldve read the rest of the response before, but I needed to correct the amantadine mistake. As far as the topical goes, I have been using some Clotrimazole over the counter cream, but I am worried about going too deep in her canal. I also have worries about pushing any buildup down into her ear when I enter the canal with a swab. I would rather use oral and knock the infection out
To Merlinandmeimei-
If what you say is true, that is quite alarming. I understand that pretty much all store bought dog food is are mostly 50% filler (grain or rice). My dog would love nothing more to eat an all meat diet, and I would love to feed it to her, but there are also heath problems associated with that. Labs (and I think all dogs) have an inherent allergy to beef fat that causes theme to get ill in response to eating beef all of the time. All meat all the time will get expensive, too, can I put her on a meat and guts diet?
.Thanks for the information on how yeast may effect the overall health of a dog throught its life cycle, I will definately look into that information.
. As far as the Blue Star, perhaps subtracting the alcohol from the mixture (and using the substitute) might be best. I dont think that alcohol would kill the yeast, and might cause drying and inflamation. It is probably something other than the alcohol in the ointment.

And if its probably not the same, WHY do I keep getting this rash on my scalp? I have seen a dermatologist three timeshe said some people are more sensitive than othersbut I want a permanent cure!
Thanks!
Yes, I am sure its Diflucanhe prescribed it after confirming fungal junk in a skin sample and also urine, stool, blood. My only symptom is the annoying rash on my scalp, though!
Thank You Everyone for great responses.

Kelly Dorfman, for several years now, and she has made a world of difference. Michael gets a ton of supplements every day, literally from A to zinc. Life got a lot easier when he started swallowing capsules. But, even as a toddler, he has always been good about taking his supplements. Somehow, he has always known that the supplements make him feel better.
Removing things that harm is even more difficult. After blood tests, we found out that Michael is IgE allergic to peanut, wheat, and egg. He cannot tolerate eating anything with dairy or soy. So, five foods had to be removed from his diet. We had to go over every food and every supplement, and make sure they didn't contain anything he couldn't have. We missed a few the first go round, but I think we're OK now. It was a major lifestyle change to cook almost everything from scratch, to forget about eating out, and to read every label carefully. But, the results have been well worth it. Now, if Michael gets something he shouldn't, it's fairly obvious, and we can fix the problem.
And, we've gotten a bonus. Now that Michael is no longer eating any of the five foods he can't have, he is much more willing to try new foods. This last week alone he has eaten chocolate DariFree, apples, and steak. He has tried these foods before, but never eaten enough of them for me to consider it an addition to his 'list' of acceptable foods. I'd always heard that children eat more when on the right diet, but never truly believed it. I'm a believer now!
Removing harmful things also means making sure that he's not being exposed to everyday chemicals that can further weaken his system. I was never a 'green' person until I realized the effect the environment has on Michael. We have replaced all our Teflon cookware with stainless steel; I clean with as few chemicals a possible; we limit pesticides to the minimal necessary outside the house (we live at the edge of a huge forest, so some are necessary to keep the critters outside). Every small step is something else to help keep Michael's immune system from further harm.
When it comes to repairing the damage, I'd really suggest working with a DAN! doctor. The biggest gains we've seen this summer came from four prescriptions: methyl B12 nasal spray, lithium cream to help with aggression, flagyl to kill bad gut bacteria, and diflucan to kill candida in the gut. With these four changes (sequentially implemented), we have a whole new child. He's happier, better able to express himself, and much less anxious about life.
